Text of decision | The section of the draft policy read; PUPILS IN PRIMARY, SECONDARY AND SPECIAL SCHOOLS Free home to school transport or assistance will be provided for the following eligible pupils of compulsory school age: a) A pupil aged under 8 attends their nearest suitable school and that school is over 2 miles from the home address where the distance is determined by the Council and uses the shortest walking distance along which a child, accompanied as necessary, may walk with reasonable safety; b) A pupil aged between 8 and 16 attends the nearest suitable school and that school is over 3 miles from the home address where the distance is determined by the Council and uses the shortest walking distance along which a child, accompanied as necessary, may walk with reasonable safety; c) A pupil aged over 8 and below the age of 11 is from a low income family and attends their nearest suitable school and that school is over 2 miles from the home address where the distance is determined by the Council and uses the shortest walking distance along which a child, accompanied as necessary, may walk with reasonable safety; d) A pupil is aged between 11 and 16 is from a low income family and attends: i. any one of their three nearest suitable schools and the school is between two and six miles away from their home address, or ii. the nearest school preferred by their parents on the grounds of religion or belief and the school is between 2 and 15 miles away from their home address. The section of the draft policy now reads; PUPILS IN PRIMARY, SECONDARY AND SPECIAL SCHOOLS Free home to school transport or assistance will be provided for the following eligible pupils of compulsory school age: a) A primary school age pupil attends their nearest suitable school and that school is over 2 miles from the home address where the distance is determined by the Council and uses the shortest walking distance along which a child, accompanied as necessary, may walk with reasonable safety; b) A secondary school age pupil attends the nearest suitable school and that school is over 3 miles from the home address where the distance is determined by the Council and uses the shortest walking distance along which a child, accompanied as necessary, may walk with reasonable safety; c) A secondary school age pupil from a low income family and attends: iii. any one of their three nearest suitable schools and the school is between 2 and 6 miles away from their home address, or iv. the nearest school preferred by their parents on the grounds of religion or belief and the school is between 2 and 15 miles away from their home address. |
Reason for decision | In preparing the consultation documentation, it was identified that there was an administration oversight in that the text from the Education Act 2006, was included in the incorrect section. It was not proposed to change that section of the current policy and the section of the report should be consistent to what was recommended and agreed by the Executive in July 2016. |
