The minutes of the Children and Young People’s Scrutiny Panel meeting held on 19 July 2023 were submitted and approved as a correct record.

The Scrutiny Panel will be asked to consider its work programme for the 2023/2024 Municipal Year.

The Democratic Services Officer submitted a report, the purpose of which was to assist Members of the Panel to consider and agree its work programme for the 2023/2024 Municipal Year.

A list of suggestions and some topical issues received in respect of the Scrutiny Panel's remit were contained in the submitted report.  It was suggested that the Scrutiny Panel should select two topics for full review.

Members discussed the topics listed in the report and suggestions received from Councillors, members of the public, and officers.  The Interim Director of Children’s Care, the Head of SEN and Vulnerable Learners, the Head of Partnerships, and the Head of Access to Education and Alternative Provision were in attendance and provided additional information requested by Members at the meeting.

Members used the aid attached at Appendix 1 to prioritise issues where scrutiny could make an impact, add value, or contribute to policy development to determine which topics were suitable for inclusion in the work programme.

Following discussion, Panel Members agreed the following topics for full review:

1. School Attendance.

2. Allocation of School Places.

AGREED that:

1. The information provided was received and noted.

2. The topics listed at 1 and 2 above would be submitted to the Overview and

    Scrutiny Board for approval.

The Chair will provide a verbal update on matters considered at the meeting of the Overview and Scrutiny Board held on 26 July 2023.
