When I was just 6 years old, I was involved in a car crash that changed my life. Thankfully, my dad, my sister and brother and I didn’t suffer serious injuries. However many people aren’t as fortunate and fatal accidents have occurred at this junction. Road incidents should not occur frequently in the same area- there is clearly an issue. I am now driven by a mission to ensure that others don’t experience the same trauma, especially when it’s preventable.
The ‘Triangle’ roundabout at the junction of Newham Way and Stainton Way has witnessed too many accidents over the years. Action must be taken to transform this dangerous spot into a safer place for everyone.
Reducing the speed limit around this roundabout (from 40mph to 30mph) and installing traffic lights would make a world of difference. Evidence from similar infrastructure improvements show significant reductions in accident rates and improved traffic flow. For example, statistics from Detox Traffic show that reducing speed limits by just 10% can reduce crash frequency by over 20%. Meanwhile, traffic signals provide clear indicators and reduce confusion, significantly lowering the chances of collisions.
This isn't just an appeal for infrastructural changes; it’s an urgent plea for safety and prevention. Action now will create lasting change and ensure that no child, family, or individual has to endure needless suffering due to inaction.
